Interview with Jan-Andrea Day, Author of The Crystal Road

Hello!

Today’s interview is with Jan-Andrea Day, author of The Crystal Road. (4.94 stars out of 5 on Goodreads.com!)

I hope you enjoy it!

Best,

-Vincent Lowry

Interview:

1) What is your author name and in what state do you live (or country if not in the US)?

Author name:  Jan-Andrea Day – From Ontario, Canada

2) What is the title of your newest book and what is the genre?

Title: “The Crystal Road”. Non-Fiction.

3) What is the book about?

This is my Memoir.  It is my Legacy project and healing journey.  It is raw as it describes living with a husband suffering from alcoholism during a Metastatic Breast Cancer Diagnosis.  As much as it touches some difficult topics, it’s light and hopefully inspiring.

4) Where did you come up with the idea?

I went back to my journals to figure out whether my husband was worth keeping.  My many entries inspired me to put them in a more comprehensive order to leave my children.  I hoped it would explain to them why I am the way that I am and why I made the decisions that I made.  I wanted them to know that it’s alright to mess up, sometimes.

5) How long did it take you to write it?

The official book took about a year and a half to write to completion.

6) Did you learn anything from the project?

I learned that I have much more strength, than I never knew possible.

7) Do you have an author website and/or blog?

Yes.  http://www.thecrystalroad.ca/

8) Do you have any success tips to pass on to fellow authors? How about any great editors/cover artists?

Write because you enjoy it, and not with the expectation that you will be able to live off of the royalties.

The cover of the Crystal Road was designed by the Tellwell team in Victoria, BC, Canada.  I love it’s simplicity, but it’s perfect with applicable symbolism.

9) What genres do you like to read? Are you open to reading new authors and reviewing their work?

I love a good thriller, a mystery or inspirational read.

I would be open to exchanging manuscripts with fellow authors, for mutual review.

10) What is your favorite book of all time and why?

My favourite authors are “Dan Brown”, and “Steve Berry”.  I love the obvious research and knowledge which backs their captivating story telling, making you feel, and believe the story.  To pick one favourite, I remain undecided…

All Because of Her by Gretta Curran Browne

FINALIST IN ‘READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING FICTION’

Part love story, part thriller, readers will find it hard to resist turning the pages.” — TELEGRAPH

“Great touching story! — All I can say is you better have a box of tissues in close proximity while reading this book. It will tear at your heart strings over and over again, and it’s impossible to put down!

Gretta Curran Browne is one of my favorite authors. Her writing has been consistently good and always keeps me reading non-stop. Never melodramatic, just real and the characters very human as in this particular book.

This story covers three generations of a very interesting family dynamic. From WWII and the French resistance to the Vietnam War rock-and-roll era to the early 80’s and 90’s this story is based on the amazing and solid love of two people. The political eras are well covered as their effect on the lives of this couple drives the plot. The beauty of the love story and the deep sadness evoked by circumstances beyond control of the couple is brilliantly written.

Needless to add, I loved this book. And I readily recommend it to readers of romance and historical fiction. It is well worth the read. This is my second time!” — WOODSEVER Amazon Top Contributor: Historical Fiction Books

Wow, Wow, and More Wow!
Absolutely loved, loved, and loved this book! The storyline was outstanding, as it moved along, developing the characters. I felt like I knew each one myself. Many I loved, and a couple I despised. It’s very sad in places, and it turns you around hooraying the next chapter.
Usually, I only give five stars to thrillers with multiple story lines and underground cave systems and treasures. Danger at every turn, always thinking of amazing escape tactics and succeeding. But, this book did it by working on my feelings and emotions. Something new for me, and definitely worth the five stars.
If you’re browsing for a great read that will keep you intrigued for hours, this is the one! Even when I was not reading it, I was thinking about it. It was a part of my life for a couple of enjoyable days. Amazing creation, Gretta Curran Browne. Thank you so much for giving my life pleasure!” — Sylvia Banschbach

Revised edition: Previously published as ‘Ghosts in Sunlight’ but only the title has been changed due to many readers saying the title of “Ghosts” was misleading, and they were initially put off thinking it was “paranormal” which it is not.

Interview with Anne Allen, Author of The Inheritance!

Hello, I’m pleased to bring you this interview today with Anne Allen, author of The Inheritance! Here book can be found at the link above.

I hope you enjoy it!

Best,

Vincent Lowry

Interview:

1) What is your author name and in what state do you live (or country if not in the US)?
Anne Allen and I live in England
2) What is the title of your newest book and what is the genre?
The Inheritance – a dual-time historical family drama
3) What is the book about?
It links the stories of two women who owned the same house in Guernsey 150 years apart. The Victorian woman, Eugenie, a young widow becomes a copyist for the French author Victor Hugo who was living in exile in Guernsey at that time and her story is shown through her diaries.
In the present day, Tess, a young doctor, inherits the house and discovers the diaries, learning more about Eugenie’s relationship with Hugo and his mistress, Juliette, and his family.
4) Where did you come up with the idea?
I lived in Guernsey for many years and this book is the latest in The Guernsey Novels, standalone stories with links set on the island. I had visited Hugo’s house, which has been left as it was when he lived there, and it inspired me to write a story about him. He was extraordinary, like his house!
5) How long did it take you to write it?
About 18 months as there was a great deal of research involved
6) Did you learn anything from the project?
I learnt a great deal about Hugo and his family and the lifestyle of 19th century islanders and that I really enjoy writing historical novels!
7) Do you have an author website and/or blog?
8) Do you have any success tips to pass on to fellow authors? How about any great editors/cover artists?
I was lucky to find an editor I’ve been happy to work with for 7 books, Liz Bailey, who is also a successful author of Georgian romances and mysteries. My cover designer, Jane Dixon-Smith, is brilliant and we work closely together to design the covers in the series.
9) What genres do you like to read? Are you open to reading new authors and reviewing their work?
I enjoy various genres, but am particularly keen on dramatic stories with interesting characters and complex plots. I also love historical fiction, including dual-time and time-slip.
10) What is your favorite book of all time and why?
The Quincunx by Charles Palliser, an extremely complex story similar in style to Anthony Trollope and Dickens, but written more recently.

EXTRAIT

The Proximity of Stars by Benedict Stuart

BlurbHave you ever wondered if we choose our loved ones during our lifetime? Before or after that time? Do you ponder the meaning of your existence? Your destiny? What life would be like if your enemies or rivals didn’t exist at all? Brian Sunderland, whom some might call a “profound researcher,” has been looking for answers to these questions. In fact, his entire life so far has been ruled by this quest, as he journeys through various dilemmas, such as surrendering to true love, his coming of age, fighting, standing up for his rights, helping others, and finally, leaving his mark on this world. In stark contrast, Peter Drake is portrayed quite realistically, as he and a cast of “everyday heroes and heroines,” including General Grant and Lianne Starling, deal with some extraordinary circumstances, tough times, action-packed scenes, and high drama. Sympathetic characters as well as despicable ones float in and out, yet ultimately, the main intrigue of the story concerns the complex relationships and dynamic interactions that occur between the good guys and the bad. Does each person deserve what he or she gets? Does each person move on with life – or simply fail? Read on to find out.About the AuthorFor the time being, Benedict J. Stuart resides in Europe with his girlfriend, taking care of two pets. They are still considered to be relatively young and intelligent. His dreams are mainly about better education, including lifelong learning, raising cultural awareness and improvement of overall human communication worldwide with the help of modern technology. Finally, he is a firm believer in broad general knowledge per se.

The Blackbird and the Ghost by Huw Steer

PRAISE FOR ‘THE BLACKBIRD AND THE GHOST’:

“full of imagination… over far too soon” – Beauty In Ruins

★★★★★ – “a real page-turner” – The Voracious Bibliophile

The Boiling Seas are the mariner’s bane – and the adventurer’s delight. The waters may be hot enough to warp wood and boil a hapless swimmer, but their scalding expanse is full of wonders. Strange islands lurk in the steamy mists, and stranger ruins hold ancient secrets, remnants of forgotten empires waiting for the bold… or lying in wait for the unwary.

On the Corpus Isles, gateway to the Boiling Seas, Tal Wenlock, the Blackbird, seeks a fortune of his own. The treasure he pursues could change the world – but he just wants to change a single life, and it’s not his own. To reach it, he’ll descend into the bowels of the earth and take ship on burning waters, brave dark streets and steal forbidden knowledge. He’ll lie, cheat, steal and fight – but he won’t get far alone. The ghosts of Tal’s past dog his every step – and one in particular keeps his knives sharp.

The Blackbird will need help to reach his goal… and he’ll need all his luck to get back home alive.

Interview with Rebecca M. Pritchard, Author of Jeremiah Hacker: Journalist, Anarchist, Abolitionist

44160721._SR1200,630_

I am pleased to bring you this interview with Rebecca M. Pritchard, author of Jeremiah Hacker: Journalist, Anarchist, Abolitionist.

Please enjoy!

Best,

-Vincent Lowry

1) What is your author name and in what state do you live (or country if not in the US)?

Rebecca M. Pritchard; I live in Maine.

2) What is the title of your newest book and what is the genre?

“Jeremiah Hacker: Journalist, Anarchist, Abolitionist” The genre is History & Biography.

3) What is the book about?

It’s about the life and times of journalist Jeremiah Hacker (1801-1895), who wrote and published a newspaper called The Pleasure Boat in Portland, Maine, which was very radical for its time.

4) Where did you come up with the idea?

I was doing historical research in the library one day, when I came across a copy of The Pleasure Boat. It’s captivating reading. Hacker had a unique way of looking at the world. The more I read, the more I thought, “Why hasn’t anybody written about this guy?” So I did.

5) How long did it take you to write it?

It started as a master’s thesis: that took about two years to research and write. Then I set it aside. Years later I reread my old thesis and said, “You know, I could really turn this into a book.” I found a publisher, who helped me revise it for publication. That took another year.

6) Did you learn anything from the project?

I learned so much from the project. Even though it was a very drawn-out process, I learned how to write a book from start to finish. I learned from my professors how to write a scholarly piece; and how to make it readable. I also learned a lot about hidden Maine history, Spiritualism and other religious movements, nineteenth-century newspapers, prison reform, dress reform, political movements such as the free land movement, early anarchism, and so many other things. All of that is contained in this deceivingly thin book.

7) Do you have an author website and/or blog?

I have a website: rebeccampritchardauthor.weebly.com. I also have a Facebook page. I’m not much of a blogger.

8) Do you have any success tips to pass on to fellow authors? How about any great editors/cover artists?

The editor I worked with is great! Alison Lewis at Frayed Edge Press.

9) What genres do you like to read? Are you open to reading new authors and reviewing their work?

I enjoy nonfiction, such as history, biography, and essay. I also love fiction and poetry. Anything that challenges me, makes me think. I recently discovered the novels of the late Richard Wagamese, and am blown away by them. He is an Ojibway author, beloved in Canada, but not as well-known south of the border, and I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon his work.

I am always open to reading and reviewing new authors, time permitting.

10) What is your favorite book of all time and why?

That’s a hard question. I have many favorite books; but I’ll go with Arctic Dreams by Barry Lopez. It’s a beautifully-written, thought-provoking book. It’s genre-busting, in that it doesn’t fit neatly into a category. Is it science? History? Philosophy? It’s really all of the above, and more. I read it as a young adult, and it taught me that nonfiction can be just as much food for the imagination as fiction.
