She has to go home to her bizarre new family (her mother has moved her in with her new boyfriend and two kids). She thinks she is going to have the worst summer ever, but she gets an unexpected gift in a man who agrees to coach her in a single rowing boat. Since she isn’t a quitter, she takes the opportunity behind her mother’s back for good reason.
